During the World Cup, the German team was drawn in Group G, as seeded, along with national teams of Portugal, United States and Ghana. He led the group with 7 units result of two wins against Portugal (4-0) and the USA (1-0) and a draw against the Black Stars of Ghana (2-2). In the second round he was measured before Algeria won 2-1 in overtime in the quarterfinals and beat France (1-0). However, Germany would get in the semis one of the biggest milestones in the history of football to crush the host country and world champions, Brazil, for a bulky and scandalous score 7-1.

Germany played its eighth final against Argentina on Sunday, July 13, 2014, at the Maracana in Rio de Janeiro. After winning 1-0 (after extra time) with solitary goal from Mario Götze, Germany won its fourth world star, becoming the first European country to be crowned in America.
